Walgreens Prescription Savings Club
Quick answer: The old Walgreens Prescription Savings Club, the paid yearly membership, is no longer promoted. Its page now sends you to Walgreens Rx Savings Finder, a free tool that finds discount card prices for your prescription at Walgreens. It’s for adults 18 and up, and there’s no age requirement for seniors.
What happened to the Prescription Savings Club?
The club charged a yearly fee for lower generic drug prices. Its old page on walgreens.com now sends you to Rx Savings Finder. Walgreens doesn’t list club fees or member price tiers anymore, so if you still have an old club card, ask the pharmacist what it does now before you count on it.
How Rx Savings Finder works
- Search your medication on walgreens.com.
- Pick a coupon for your drug and dose.
- Bring the coupon to the pharmacy or call it in.
Prices depend on the drug, the discount card and your Walgreens location.
Should seniors on Medicare use it?
Discount card prices are not insurance, and Walgreens notes they can be lower than an insurance copay. The catch is that what you pay with a coupon generally doesn’t count toward your Medicare Part D deductible or out-of-pocket limit. Our tip: ask the pharmacist to run both prices and pick the lower one. Also compare the AARP prescription discount card and Walmart’s $4 generics.
Looking for 20% off at the front of the store? That’s Walgreens Seniors Day, a separate program.
