CVS ExtraCare for Seniors
Quick answer: CVS doesn’t have a senior discount or a senior day. The closest thing is ExtraCare, the free rewards card, which pays 2% back in ExtraBucks on most store purchases. Anyone 18 or older can join.
How CVS ExtraCare works
- 2% back: you earn ExtraBucks on qualifying purchases. Prescriptions, copays, alcohol, stamps and gift cards don’t count.
- Pharmacy rewards: opt in and you get $2 in ExtraBucks for every four credits. A 30-day fill is one credit, a 90-day fill is three, and a vaccine is four. There’s a $50 yearly cap per person.
- Coupons: personal deals show up in the app, by email and at the coupon center kiosk.
Watch the dates. ExtraBucks expire, so use them on your next few trips.
Is ExtraCare Plus worth it for seniors?
ExtraCare Plus is the paid version, about $5 a month or $48 a year. You get a $10 reward each month, free delivery on most orders and 20% off CVS brand products. If you shop at CVS at least once a month, the $10 reward alone covers the fee.
Other ways to save on prescriptions
Ask the pharmacist about generics, and compare cash prices with your copay. Our AARP prescription discount card page covers another option.
