Costco Member Prescription Program
Senior Discount: Up to 80% off

Costco Member Prescription Program

Quick answer: Costco’s Member Prescription Program is a free prescription discount for Costco members. It isn’t insurance and it isn’t age-based, but it can beat a Medicare copay on some drugs. You can’t use it and your insurance on the same prescription, so compare both prices first.

How the Costco prescription program works

You pay the Costco discounted cash price instead of running the prescription through your insurance or Medicare Part D. There’s no extra fee beyond your Costco membership. Costco’s pharmacy site now calls some of these pages “Member Value Pricing”, so don’t be surprised if you see that name.

Savings depend on the drug. Costco doesn’t promise a flat percentage, so the old “up to 80% off” line should be treated as a best case, not a rule.

Is it worth it on Medicare?

Sometimes. For cheap generics, the Costco cash price can be lower than your Part D copay. But money you pay outside your plan usually doesn’t count toward your deductible or out-of-pocket limit. Our tip: ask the pharmacist to run both prices and tell you which is lower before they fill it.

Do I need a membership to use Costco pharmacy?

In most states, no. You can fill a prescription at Costco without a membership. The member discount pricing is the part that needs a membership.
