Sporty Chic

From yoga pants to hoodies; sporty looks for every day…

The line between everyday attire and work out wear is growing thin (as will you if you actually work out in them). Regardless of what you do while you wear them, yoga pants, leggings, sneakers and hoodies aren’t just for the gym anymore.

Yoga Pants

In Los Angeles, yoga pants have long overtaken sweat pants in the wear-it-in-public sportswear realm. For one thing, the cut of yoga pants is far more flattering, accentuating your best assets, rather than swallowing them up. For another, the fabric is less, well, sweatpant-y, and more sleek. Paired with a long cotton knit tshirt, and a pair of flats or snazzy sneaks, no one would necessarily know you use those same pants to go Ohm.

Leggings

Whether cropped or long, leggings can serve as a softer, more comfy substitute for skinny jeans. They give you the same lean silhouette, without the constricting zipper or the tight denim fabric squeezing your belly and thighs. They can be colorful and patterned and serve as the focal point of your outfit, or they can be in a simple solid color like black or dark grey, that can be paired with a long T, or a chunky sweater, and a pair of knee-high boots for a put together look. One caveat – make sure the tops cover your bottom.

Sneaks

The British, Japanese fashion collectors, and rappers have long known that sneakers are for more than running. “Trainers,” as they are fondly called in merry old England, come in all shapes and sizes, with thick-bottomed soles (usually what runners prefer) or slender and slim sneaks with a low profile made for walking. Some are more weather-proof than others, which makes them great for winter and spring’s challenging seasons, and many have inventive, creative designs and colorcombos, utilizing neon or splashes of color to make the shoe even more eyecatching. If you’ve got one such shoe on your foot, you could have the most boring outfit imaginable (white T and jeans) and still stand out.

Hoodies

Hoodies aren’t just for the sports field, anymore. They can be made of different, more chic fabrics, and come in waterproof fabrics that offer more protection than your average cotton hoodie. Some have “crystal” insignia embedded on them, giving them an extra sparkle (aka, say, Juicy Couture). They can come in more form-fitting and flattering cuts than what you would wear at the gym. Wear them under a jacket for an extra layer, or on their own. You can go for a slim fit, or a loose, layered, baggy look. Either way, you will maximize both style and comfort.

Hoodies

Easy, comfortable and flattering, workout-inspired sportswear is great for running a few miles or just running around town.
